About
Gwen Gorlin
I am a self-taught artist in Scottsdale, AZ. I began my artistic journey long ago as a teen. Yep, I was that friend who was always "into" something - mini tiles to oil painting to knitting. I even became a Docent at the Phoenix Art Museum in 2014 to better understand what I love: art!
Then right before the pandemic I found watercolor and I was instantly in love. As the world shut down, I dove head first and went from a dabbler (which I used to think meant I wasn't a "real" artist, but now I know curiosity is central to creativity) to having a regular art practice. Watercolor led me further into my own creativity and self expression, and connected the dots between my unique way of being in the world, my purpose, and my art.
I found that making art can bring us closer and more connected to ourselves. Most of us are not seeking to become a professional painter or florist. What we want is more creativity in all forms, not just learn to paint (what people think making art is) but to make something with our own hands, to be more connected to our heart center, to slow our racing brains, breathe, to focus on just one thing at a time. To experience joy in the present moment.
My mission at Side Patio Flowers & Art is to give us more joy, more connection, more creativity, more present moment. A space to show up as we are and BE. I hope you'll find something here that suits you and join us!
